On the heels of X Jewellery’s new price reductions I thought it would be appropriate to finally review the Visible Path and the Asian cord.
First impression:
When this link pendant came out for the holiday 2014 collection it was instant “I NEED THIS,” but then I saw the price tag and was like OK never going to happen. Then the hubby took advantage of a Christmas sale and I got it!
Review:
If you didn’t see my post on my 2015 Christmas haul, I talked about how my husband purchased this for me thinking it was a regular link and when he received it was so surprised to find how large it was because he had no idea it was meant to be worn around the neck LOL. Needless to say I was thrilled!
This necklace link is a bit tricky to measure so the measurements are a rough estimate. It measures 1 and 1/8 inches tall and 3 and 1/16th inches long or 29 mm by 78 mm. Below is a screenshot of me holding the link in my hand so you can see exactly how big this link is. I thought when wearing this link that it was pretty self explanatory but little did I know there is much more to this link than I thought.
When I tried to place this around my neck I attached one side of the Asian cord to one side of the link then I realized it wasn’t easy to attach the other side of the cord to the link as by now it was around my neck and found it hard to line up the cord with the link because I couldn’t see what I was doing. I will try to illustrate with this short video:
So either I needed help from another person or I struggled with it for a little bit while I tried to get the two links to line up in order to insert the cord. It’s much easier to do when one is playing around with the links because you can see what you are doing. Trust me though when I say my vanity gets the better of me and I don’t care if I have to struggle for a couple of minutes, I will wear this piece out on the town LOL.
The Visible Path is of course made out of sterling silver, however it is more oxidized than what the online picture leads one to believe.
Now comes the Asian cord, I have to say although functional, I don’t love it. It reminds me of eyeglass cords that grandma used to wear around her neck in order not to misplace her glasses, does anyone else know what I mean? I appreciate that the links are silver, but I fear if I tug too hard one too many times, this thing will come apart and fray or something.
It’s nice that it’s available in other colors, but I would’ve preferred a silver chain or something. I know that Trollbeads wants to keep X Jewellery as a separate entity, but something like this would’ve been nice:
The above graphic is my “prototype” and design. It is strictly my creation and not something that X is coming up with. That is why the watermarks are where they are so that someone can’t remove them and start a rumor or something. I think something like this would’ve been more appropriate, it’s sterling silver therefore goes with anything and much more sturdy, who else agrees with me?
In the future if the Asian cord I have fails, I might go to a jeweler and see if there’s anything they can custom make for me, that would be very interesting!
In Conclusion:
The Visible Path is a must have piece, especially if you are like me and love anything star themed. This link is of course sterling silver with some oxidation and initially cost $233 but now retails at the more affordable price of $150. The Asian cord is available in different colors such as pink, turquoise, red, green, and black and it comes in three sizes. The Asian cords used to cost $44, but now are only $24, that’s a twenty dollar difference!!! One thing to note, the pink Asian cord comes in both silver and bronze, while the other colors only come in silver. Will you be doing any shopping now that X Jewellery is much more affordable? I know I will! 😉
