Today’s post will be relatively short as I’m still a bit under the weather, but I’m super excited to share what I’m wearing with you today! My Waxing Poetic Square Insignia Five Chain Bracelet.
Now I know that I tend to only review or talk about retired items from Waxing Poetic, but it’s only because 1. I like most retired items, 2. Once retired, they go on sale, i.e. they are now affordable to me, 3. I will review an item that will then become retired; so bear with me as I talk about this bracelet which once again is, RETIRED!
As with Trollbeads, I’ve only been collecting Waxing Poetic for a little while, they tend to be more on the pricey side so I’m more conservative when I purchase Waxing Poetic. I still have yet to buy a bracelet, I have all these charms and no bracelet! One day I’ll find a good deal!
Anyway, I have no idea when this bracelet came out or when it was retired, with some research I found out it was called the Square Insignia Five chain bracelet, and that it retailed for $130. There was also another bracelet similar to this one called the Voyager Insignia bracelet, that may be next on my list when it comes to hunting down a discontinued item.
So I was able to get my hands on this beauty through eBay which I don’t recommend. I got lucky with the person selling it and with the price I paid for it. It was described as old stock item, new, never worn, in need of a good cleaning (I don’t think it needs cleaning, I think it looks great just as it is). I don’t recommend going through eBay because of course of the danger of running into fakes, and if you don’t think there are fake Waxing Poetic out there, there is! As always if you do decide to be brave and buy through eBay, please make sure you check out how long the seller has been selling for, and of course what their feedback is. Also make sure to check their neutral ratings, I learned my lesson the hard way, just because a seller has 100% positive feedback, doesn’t mean they are a reputable seller, if they have a lot of neutral ratings, beware! This can mean that a negative rating got changed to a neutral one because the seller was able to refund or somehow ameliorate the situation in which the buyer was not happy.
I had assumed that because this bracelet was probably the origin of the Square Insignia initial charms that the initial on the bracelet would be identical to the charm, boy was I wrong. There are some differences that you can see here:
For starters, I noticed that the oxidation on the charm is much heavier, on the bracelet it’s pretty negligible. This makes me think that perhaps the bracelet could use a good cleaning and that it’s not supposed to have any oxidation? Still not sure about that. At least the initials are about the same size between the charm and the bracelet.
Also the pattern on the background is different between the bracelet and the charm. I again assumed it would be identical but you can see the subtle differences between the two images:
The background is different between the two A’s. I think I prefer the charm better, but I’m still liking the bracelet a lot.
Overall I’m very happy with this bracelet, I’m glad I got a huge discount on it, I don’t think I would’ve shelled out the $130 to pay for this bracelet. It’s lighter than I thought it would be, and very comfortable to wear. I like the ease of the toggle clasp to put on and take off, but I’ve never really liked them that much because I don’t feel like they are very secure. It’s one of those things that I’ll have to keep an eye on when wearing or maybe just have the toggle replaced with a lobster clasp or something more secure.
I hope you’ve enjoyed reading about my latest find, stay tuned for a Trollbeads haul that I have planned soon, I’m not sure if I’ll be getting anything from the new autumn collection yet, you’ll have to watch the video to find out!
