Review: Pandora Shimmer Muranos Summer 2016

For today’s post I will be reviewing the new Shimmering muranos that are about to debut for the 2016 Summer collection.

First Impression:

I have to say I wasn’t too thrilled with the online images, unfortunately  Pandora glass is not very intricate and although there are a couple of muranos that I do like I wasn’t really expecting much. That is until I saw them in real life of course!

Review:

The first murano that caught my eye was the new Red Shimmer murano. It’s a beautiful shade of red, think cherry red or candy apple red. I like it very much and it tempts me into starting a red colored bracelet! The tiny silver flecks in it makes the red pop more, although I heard some customers say it looked a bit juvenile. I don’t know if I agreed with them but I could see their point, what do you think?

Here are snapshots of the Red Shimmer muranos:

And here are some pics of the Red Shimmer muranos next to the Red Effervescent and Fascinating Red muranos for comparison:

Next we come to the Frosty Mint Shimmer murano, I have to say I’m not sure about the color on this one, it looks more white to me than anything else. Obviously no two muranos are alike but there are a lot of variations on the ones I saw. The color is a bit hard to describe, online images make this murano look like a bluish grey, but upon closer inspection I could see some green flecks of color near the core that I could not capture with my camera. I think I would’ve needed a macro lens in order to illustrate this! Regardless the green flecks of color are a forest green and they are covered by silver flecks although on some muranos the flecks were more pinkish not unlike the Pink Shimmer murano. Quick sidebar here: I know I didn’t review the Pink or Purple Shimmer muranos, and now I realize that even though they are just as gorgeous as the summer ones, they didn’t appeal to me because I don’t much care for pink or purple. Anyway the silver/pink flecks over power any green that could be seen and these “minty” muranos look almost white to me.

Here are the Frosty Mint Shimmer muranos:

And here I placed them next to other corresponding white muranos Pandora offers:

Note the second murano, or the first Frosty Mint Shimmer, can you see the green flecks in it?

Here I placed them next to different green muranos:

I was hoping the green would bring out the “minty-ness” of the Frosty Mint Shimmer muranos but to no avail, perhaps I should’ve placed them next to blue ones? I honestly don’t know why Pandora is calling this and the corresponding LE leather bracelet Frosty Mint, to me mint is green not blue. Perhaps Pandora was going for something more like a winter mint? I always thought that was a made up flavor for gum or hard candies but I did some research and apparently there is such a thing as winter mint, however it’s still a green plant. I guess we’ll never know!

Last but not least we come to the Teal Shimmer murano. I particularly like this murano because it almost looks like it has a shattered glass look to it. I’m also very happy it’s finally come out so I can make a whole teal bracelet, below you’ll see what design I came up with.

Here I placed the Teal Shimmer along with the Disney Ariel’s signature color, Fascinating Teal, and Jasmine’s signature color for color comparison:

And this is the bracelet I came up with, love how it came out!!!

I probably would pick other clips though, I just picked these because they were handy. What I wouldn’t give to start on this project!

In Conclusion:

Overall I like these muranos a lot! I’m not a huge fan of the Frosty Mint, but they are still very pretty to look at. It’s nice to see that Pandora is starting to get a bit more innovative with their murano designs, I think these charms are getting a nice breath of fresh air which in my opinion they badly needed. The Shimmer murano charms retail at $50 which I think for glass is a bit steep, but I can appreciate the time and work it takes to make them. What do you think of these muranos? Love them or hate them? What do you think of these bold new colors?
