Review: Waxing Poetic Heartstruck Love Pendant

On today’s post I will be reviewing Waxing Poetic’s Heartstruck Love pendant/charm. I wonder why they call this one a pendant and not a charm, I guess with most pieces from Waxing Poetic, it can go either way depending on your mood.

First Impression:

Based on the online image, I gathered that this charm was a solid piece of silver, it looked heavy and I liked the inscribed “Love” on it. I thought the sentiment was sweet and liked the floral flourishes surrounding it. I also figured because of it’s perceived heaviness that this would be perfect for my bracelet, since recently most of the charms I have been reviewing tend to be on the more delicate side. For some reason, this pendant also reminds me of a dog tag, perhaps because it looks just like one of the first dog tags we bought for our furry baby when she was a puppy.

Review:

Well I’m sorry to say that this might be the first bad review I give Waxing Poetic. I was sorely disappointed with this charm. When I first opened the package and poured the charm out onto my hand, I couldn’t believe how light the charm was! It looked like a shell of what I thought it would be. The edges of the charm are a bit rounded which gives the illusion that this charm is thicker than what it really is but once you turn it over, you can see that it’s very misleading.

I couldn’t get over how thin and light this charm was, I want to say it’s almost cheaply made and I wonder who thought this was charm was worth $59?!

Now I purchased this charm at a very, very deep discount, a Waxing Poetic dealer liquidating their inventory so I didn’t mind too much that this pendant was so light, but if I had paid the full retail price of $59 I would’ve been livid! Also I bought this charm weeks ago, and it was still current on Waxing Poetic’s website, since then it has now been reduced to $17.70 which is a more appropriate price for this pendant! I just feel bad for all those people who paid full price for it. I will most likely wear this on my bracelet since I don’t care too much if it gets dinged up and I don’t care to wear this as a necklace.

This charm was also part of a series, in the Heartstruck collection there were two other charms, one with the word Bless, and the other had Mom engraved on it. These were also $59 and have since been retired as well, and are no longer available.

Makes me feel that perhaps I should start snapping up all of the charms on my wishlist, seems that all the ones I have my eye on are being retired faster than I can buy them!

In Conclusion:

I am very surprised that this charm was not what I expected it to be. This is one of the reasons why I write this blog, to let others know before they buy what they are getting themselves into, unfortunately for me, I keep picking charms that are either retired or soon to be retired, so it’s almost a moot point. I did buy this charm about three weeks ago, so I guess things change quickly. This charm is sterling silver, with oxidation details and retailed for $59, it has been reduced to $17.70 and is still available for purchase, but will be discontinued soon.
