Review: Rough Romance (Heart Glimpse) from X Jewellery

Today is a small milestone for my blog for many reasons, not only have I already been blogging for a little over than a year now about my passion, but this post marks my 100th post! It really should’ve been sometime last year when I reached this milestone but so much happened last year that I was unable to post routinely twice a week as is my custom. Another small milestone is that today I will be reviewing my first single link from X Jewellery and that is the Rough Romance. Coming off the heels of Valetine’s Day I thought the Rough Romance appropriate for some reason LOL. I also can’t believe this is the first time I’m reviewing a single link versus a double link, I never noticed that all of my X reviews have been on double links but it’s true, making this review just that much more special!

First Impression:

When this link was first released I thought I must have it! I loved that another heart link was designed and I couldn’t wait to get my hands on it. I also couldn’t wait to feel the link since the name itself calls it rough, I’ve started to like textured links a lot for some reason so this was high on my wish list.

Review:

Once I finally received the Rough Romance link I was surprised of how big it is compared to other single links, it measures approximately 3/4 of an inch wide by 5/8 long or 18mm by 15mm which is much bigger than the plain link rubber or metal.

Here is a shot of what it looks like from the sides, I took several shots so you can see what angle I was using. It’s really interesting to see the texture that this link has:

Here one can see exactly how much bigger this link is compared to the original rubber link and a copper single link, it was very surprising to me! This is why I love doing these reviews, so that anyone else can use them as a reference and then decide if a certain link is right for them.

I do wish that X would make the links a little more uniform when it comes to sizes, what I mean is I wish they were more similar in size, but then I guess that would mean they would limit their creativity in designing new links wouldn’t it? Here now is a side by side comparison between the Rough Romance and My Heart:

Here you can see how much bigger the Rough Romance link is when compared to the My Heart link, the Rough Romance link would make a lovely focal point on a bracelet, I plan on using it as such whenever fancy strikes.

Again I have to mention how much I love the texture of this link, it’s just fun to play with, for now I have it on my random bracelet:

This is where the link will live for now until I can figure out where else to put it, this is one of those links I wouldn’t mind having duplicates of. The little square shaped studs that make up the link are staggered, think of them as little steps, there are three types of them, one is recessed, one is even and one is raised. They remind me of braille a little. There doesn’t seem to be rhyme or reason to them which makes this link that much more fun and random. I kind of wish they had called it pixelated heart instead of Rough Romance, but I guess the designer had other thoughts in mind.

In Conclusion:

This is a very fun and whimsical link and at a $56 price point it’s well worth it although a bit pricey for a single link. I do hope X Jewellery makes this in a bronze version, that would add some softness to this edgy link and bring the price down a bit. I think in the future I may purchase a second one in order to have a pair, I think I already have an idea where this link will eventually go if I buy another one!

I love my Rough Romance and yes, it is a center peice of my bracelet 😀 Surrounded by black, bronze and bordeaux links from each side. I adore the color combo.
